How do you lose weight when you are weak?

Hey there, I get it, I have been there. I have been heavy pretty much my entire life. I struggled as a little girl eating all the boring healthy foods of that time, but dreamed of when I could finally make my own decisions and eat all the junk foods I wanted. As I grew older, I continued to gain, so I became the fat girl in the group. I tried pretty much every diet. I have tried the Mirkin’s diet, Atkins’ diet, eating all green veggies, drinking mostly Ensure shakes, Weight Watchers, Herbalife, starvation, veganism, vegetarianism, juice cleanse, and finally Trim Healthy Mama. As you can see, I have tried so many diet plans over my life and was so ready to quit. I even started considering surgery as a last resort. I spent my life on a rollercoaster of emotions, punishing myself for my poor eating habits. I later learned that I was an emotional eater, and would go through cycles of “being good” and eating healthy and exercising, but then back to my bad eating habits and lack of exercise.

When Trim Healthy Mama Entered the Picture

Okay, so back to Trim Healthy Mama. Back in 2014 or so, a friend of mine tried to persuade me to try Trim Healthy Mama, but I refused. At that time I was attempting a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, which I was happy with at that time. But towards the end of 2017, I was at the end of my rope and didn’t know what to do. I had gained even more weight and so I was desperate. Another friend brought up Trim Healthy Mama again, so I very quickly looked into it. Being that I had tried so many diet plans over the years, I was very skeptical about the whole idea, but what would it hurt? Right? I spoke to another friend about Trim Healthy Mama and she apparently tried it years ago, so we decided we would both give it a try together. Over the next few years, I tried Trim Healthy Mama successfully and at times unsuccessfully. I did the plan sometimes at 25%, 50%, and 75%. During my two recent pregnancies, I used Trim Healthy Mama to both promote healthy pregnancies, but also to prevent me from gaining too much weight. During my pregnancy, I actually lost weight. After I had weened my second child, I began to gain all the weight back. This time, I became my heaviest at 290 lbs. I decided right then and there to give Trim Healthy Mama a fair shot.

When the Coaching Began

I had many struggles along the way, but towards the end of 2021, I was inspired to become a certified coach with Trim Healthy Mama. At the beginning of 2022, I completed my certification and kept it quiet, but also offered some pro bono services to some of my friends who were on the plan to give me some experience and motivation to continue my weight loss Journey. I am currently weighing around 245 lbs., which is a few pounds less than my high school weight of 250 lbs. This was my first major goal and I am so excited about it. So if you were to ask me if this plan was sustainable, I will say yes. This plan works for me and I hope I can encourage you to try it. Whether you chose this path or another, ask yourself if it is sustainable. Ask yourself if you and your family can eat this way. Also, ask yourself if you can eat this way for the rest of your life. That’s the thing; you can on this plan. I love how this plan was designed with everyone in mind. When you are strong, go hard!

When you are strong, go hard. Now, what on earth do I mean by that? What I mean is when things in life are going according to plan and you are motivated, give weight loss all that you have. This isn’t the time to cheat on your weight loss goals. You could easily just have a cheat here and there, but you’re motivated remember? So give it all you got. I don’t know about you, but life sort of happens in waves. There will be a period of times when no one is sick in the family, and in my case, I’m not menstruating, or life isn’t too busy. So when this happens, plan your meals and if you can, get in some exercise, and when you go out to eat, choose the better option.

When you are weak, hold on!

Now, on to the other side of weight loss. Have you been weak? Oh yes, I know about weak. When you are weak, just hold on until you get into a better place. A place where you have the strength to push and go hard. What does this look like? Well, If all you can do is eat crossover meals or nice wholesome meals, then do that. You won’t be in weight loss mode, but at least you won’t gain any. Look at it this way; you are still feeding your body good wholesome foods that won’t spike your blood sugar or make you feel worse.

Be Realistic

Life is going to happen, so just go with the flow and stop putting unrealistic expectations on yourself. If you know that you are an emotional eater, stop focusing on stopping the behavior and instead change the foods that you eat while being emotional. If for example, you are used to having a chocolate candy bar in the evening during your downtime, then go for a Trim Healthy Mama-friendly or even keto-friendly chocolate candy bar instead. In my case, if you are used to enjoying a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, then instead pick up a pint of Enlightened keto ice cream and sit in front of your TV and eat that instead. There are different modifications you could make along your journey. I quit trying to stop my behavior because I was getting nowhere with my efforts and I instead focused on my top priority of weight loss. I can’t change my behavior right now, but hopefully, over time my behavior will change. In the meantime, I’m making small steps toward changing my behavior by changing the type of food instead of the overall behavior itself.
